The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya summary:

Kyon, a typical high school freshman, had already given up his childhood fantasies of encountering the supernatural - or so he thought. His classmate, Haruhi Suzumiya, however, was anything but typical. On their first day of school, Haruhi expressed her desire to meet aliens, time travelers, and psychics. Intrigued by her unconventional approach, Kyon engaged her in conversation, leading to the creation of the SOS Brigade - a school club dedicated to attracting supernatural beings. Its initial members included Yuki Nagato, Mikuru Asahina, and Itsuki Koizumi, all affiliated with covert organizations tasked with monitoring Haruhi, who posed a catastrophic threat. Kyon soon discovered that his fellow club members were not Haruhi's victims but rather allies who worked to prevent impending danger.
