Vera, who started out as a beggar, has no qualms about trampling on others or making despicable deals just to survive. Even in an era when the Demon King had emerged, he did not fight like a hero; instead, he hid in the deepest darkness, concerned only with preserving his own life. Though he managed to survive in the end, what awaited him upon his return after the war was karma. As he lay consumed by the curse, waiting for death, Vera did not even hope for anyone to be by his side at the end of his life, assuming no one would be there. However, when he opened her eyes, he found himself in a cesspool—and there, alongside him, was the blind saint Renée, who had been declared dead. Though René had a humble appearance, blind and covered in burn scars, she took Vera in with a heart more kind and selfless than anyone else’s. But she eventually died, and Vera was unable to prevent it. After his rebirth, he vows that this time, he will be the one to seek her out first and protect her at all costs. However, protecting René is not something that can be achieved simply by becoming stronger. On the day the Saint’s Stigmata manifest, the entire continent—from the Holy Kingdom and the Empire to the Kingdom Alliance, the Dragonians, and even the Followers of the Night—begins to mobilize around her.
